Michael Millward on BBC1 six - 20-02-2009 | Abeceder managing director Michael Millward has been asked by the BBC six ’o’clock news to comment on the unusual steps people are taking to find work during the current economic climate.
In a report broadcast during the six ‘o’clock news on 20th February 2009 the BBC featured the story of Jason Fruen a mechanical maintenance engineer from Salford in north west England, who after being out of work since September 2008 decided to stop waiting for a job to appear and to start telling employers that he is available.
He has adopted tactics utilised famously during the depression of the 1930s and advertised his availability for work by standing by the side of a busy road junction wearing a sandwich board.
Mr Millward commended Mr Fruen and said that whilst this approach may not be right for everyone, the reality of the situation was that with large numbers of people looking for work the people who will be successful first are those that stand out from the crowd.
